Strengthening Communities, Cultivating Leaders

Catch Together is a project of Trust for Conservation Innovation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that supports innovative conservation endeavors. The Catch Together program was created by Catch Invest founders in 2017 to build a nationwide network of community permit banks, connecting fishermen’s long-term access to the fisheries resources they depend on, and ushering in a new generation of fishing leaders. We believe that financially successful fishermen will improve fisheries management.

  1. Our Permit Bank Toolkit, will help guide you through the process of creating a permit bank.
  2. Our Community Coaching provides one-on-one support to communities that are trying to buy quota.
  3. Our Capital Investment Platform helps permit banks finance quota purchases.

Permit bank learning hub & toolkits

Are you a small-scale fishing community looking for ways to help fishermen thrive? Are you a fisherman who wants to make sure your community keeps fishing into the future? Are you a community leader looking for ways to bring the local fishing fleet together to work toward a common future?  If so, a permit bank could be an ideal solution.   

Permit banks are community organizations that purchase fishing quota—from scallop to groundfish to snapper—and lease that quota to local fishermen at affordable rates. They provide local fishermen with access to the quota they need to build sustainable businesses. A permit bank can also provide a “common ground” for a community of fishermen, bringing them together to overcome obstacles with effective solutions.  

When you consider the potential payoff to healthy fisheries, healthy fishing businesses, and healthy communities, setting up a permit bank is worth the time and effort. If you’re interested in starting or strengthening a permit bank in your community, these step-by-step modules will guide you through the process. By the time you complete the final lesson, you should have a well-functioning, well-planned permit bank with support and engagement from all levels of your community.
